A number of children were gunned down in their elementary school on May 24, 2022. I saw some of their pictures, and I felt an unimaginable love for them. What followed was an incredible feeling of sadness and desperation. What has happened? Is human life simply a matter of statistics? We unfortunately will never know who these children would have become. We cannot know the value of their life, who they were as a soul, or what they could have contributed to our world to make it better. Who are we? What is our purpose here? I’m afraid my love for humanity grows weary. My patience grows thin. Do we have enough time to save our own condition? I must believe that we do, or I have no hope of purpose in my own life.
There are unfortunately countless justifications for wrong action, and in many cases, for no action at all on the part of some. Here’s a short list:
Of course, I care about the lives of children. Of course, I’m concerned about my fellow human beings. I can overlook this shallow attempt to care because I have money, or at least I would like to have some. I will disregard my feelings and the reality I see before me. I must continue to vote Republican in order to protect the money I have, and to justify my insatiable need to acquire even more.
I must vote for Republicans, for they will protect the lives of the unborn children. God tells me this is my mission. As long as I make this happen, I do not have to care about the lives of the children I see every day. It does not matter if they have enough food to eat. Nor does it matter that my 3rd grader was shot to death in school today with a military grade rifle. That’s ok, I must give every child an opportunity to come into this world. This level of hypocrisy is so extreme as to be pathetic.
I have cared in the past, but to no avail. Things will never change. There’s nothing I can do about it. Voting for the right person makes no difference to the condition of my life or the condition of our country and the world. My friends, you do matter. You are important because you are here. We define our purpose through the beliefs we hold and the actions we take.
Having said all that, there are questions that still remain. Here’s another list:
To Mitch McConnell and Ted Cruz – “Is your level of greed, lust for power, and lack of respect for human life so important that you will destroy the United States of America?” If you believe you are men, I’m afraid you haven’t matured past the age of puberty. Real men care about the welfare of humanity and the condition of this wonderful world we have been given.
To Ginny and Clarence Thomas – “Is your false self-righteousness, as provided by the Christian Church, allowed you to deceive your fellow human beings?” I’m afraid, it is your own ego that has led you astray. Perhaps you have given new meaning to “using the Lord’s name in vain”.
To the wealthy individuals and corporations – “Will you allow your self-interest and apathy to destroy not only yourselves, but the entire world?” “Can you support the Democrats in Congress and be willing to pay your fair share in taxes so that we all may survive?”
This last question applies to all of us – “Are we so afraid of pain that we are unwilling to enter our hearts and feel what we need to feel?” This needs to happen if we are to change what needs to change. Unfortunately, there are those who choose to walk the path of darkness and selfishness. This we have no control over. What we can control is to not allow them to have positions of power and decide for us how our lives and world are going to be. Do the lives of our children matter? I believe they do. We all matter. Are we angry? Yes, we’re angry. Are we frustrated? Yes, we’re frustrated. Do we hate? We cannot afford to.
We massacre one another every day, not just with guns, but in every conceivable way. What does this mean to you? To all of you mothers out there, I know in my heart how much you love your children. If your child was taken from you, your political views will not matter. Your religious views will not matter. Your money will mean nothing. You will be devastated. And yes, Marsha Blackburn, you would be devastated too. Please love and support our children today, and do the right thing for our children today, in every way.
All my love and support, stay safe and be well
