“Ray Two – Love and Wisdom”

Background g30391bdec 1920

We come now to our discussion of the 2nd Ray, Love and Wisdom. This particular system of energy is of paramount importance, as it involves the understanding of our purpose in the present world period. Our purpose always involves the development of a certain stage or aspect of consciousness within the group called humanity. All the ray energies have a dual expression because we live in a system based on duality for much of our experience here. Love can be understood as the “highest” expression of our emotional life. Wisdom can be understood as the “highest” expression of the accumulated knowledge and awareness we have achieved through our experience. Wisdom then involves the mental aspect of life. These two aspects of consciousness clearly have their differences, but they are not in opposition to one another, as we will see. In essence, love leads to wisdom. Our ultimate goal is to achieve a higher level of understanding of spiritual purpose, and this helps us define what the true meaning of wisdom is. In the current world period, it is love that will provide for us the vehicle through which we gain this necessary understanding. In other words, to understand “life” we must understand “love”. Let’s take a closer look.

Christ and the Expression of Love

In our present time period, we have been presented with the opportunity to understand what the meaning of love is and how to use it properly. This is what the Christ brought forward in his teachings. Love is the first part of the equation, if you will, and it is our goal to learn how to apply it in our life. From a higher perspective, love is not really an emotion, but an energy that permeates all things. It is the substance from which we build and create. In a very practical sense, love involves the energy of attraction, which allows us to draw to ourselves that which we need. If love is all things, then we can understand our life and our sense of individuality to be part of a larger whole. This allows us to eventually become aware of the reality of oneness. The creation of our world and all the life forms found within was made possible by the cohesive energy of love. It’s very important for us to understand then that we are not separate from others or all that we see around us. Love is all-inclusive. You and me, this and that, is all one thing. We are in the process of understanding as well that not everything is about us. We are not here to create for ourselves alone, but to add something to the greater whole. What we say and do affects all life around us, so we can see the need to be responsible in our actions and what it is we are creating. This is the energy of love. We will eventually see that love does work in our actual experience by seeing and feeling its impact. We are engaged in the process of applying our understanding of love within our life and experience. When we become consistent in the application of love in our lives, we have achieved success. The initiation of the energy of love and compassion began some 2,000 years ago through the work of the Christ. This was the age of Pisces, which involved that necessary “internal” processing of the awareness of love. A vertical relationship was developed during that time between us as human beings and that all-inclusive spirit. However, our understanding of love remained a mostly inner experience through faith alone. We have now entered the Age of Aquarius, where the development of a loving consciousness can be practically applied in the outer world. Our understanding of love is coming to fruition. This is the ultimate goal and purpose of existence. Understanding how love works is the wisdom we seek.

Buddha and the Expression of Wisdom

The acquisition of knowledge does not necessarily produce wisdom. There is an important distinction between knowledge and wisdom. For much of our experience, we spend our time gaining knowledge in order to develop an intellectual understanding of various principles and ideologies. For the most part, this is an exercise of filling up the mind with facts and figures in order to provide ourselves something to choose from. In other words, what we create with our minds cannot remain there and have any real value. To have a sense of completion in our creative process, we must bring forward what exists in our minds into our lives in a practical way. What we intellectually understand needs to have a positive effect in our life as an individual, and hopefully as it applies to the greater whole as well, through our own actions. Our goal is to always improve the life conditions of humanity and the world in which we live. This is the loving approach to living. Love produces wisdom, you see. The above process clearly defines the Buddha’s teachings. All things of the mind need to find their practical application within our lives. A balanced and realistic approach is always advisable. We cannot exist only in our minds and expect to improve our condition. We need to fully participate in life and learn how to create what is needed. We must always consider ourselves to be part of a greater whole, and we all have a role and purpose within this whole. The improvements we make in ourselves most definitely affect all of humanity. Our goal is to create goodness and goodwill. This is love in action.

The 2nd Ray’s Expression through our Institutions

Love and wisdom find their expression in a very powerful way within all our systems of education. That’s what life is all about. We are here to learn. Our education is of primary concern today as never before, for we have entered a new phase of our spiritual development. Traditional or formal education has its appropriate value as we need to understand our world and how we can effectively participate in it. This of course involves the development of a set of knowledge and skills in order to perform a certain job or function to provide something to humanity and the world. In addition to this basic form of education, we will see a gradual approach toward some greater spiritual understanding as well. This will be required in order for us to understand the importance of seeing ourselves as part of a larger group. In other words, we will begin to expand our awareness of individuality and uniqueness and how it applies to this greater whole. We as individuals are important, and we will discover how we are indeed necessary for the world to work. Love and Wisdom also influence the institutions surrounding science and medicine as well. These departments are technically under the guidance of the 5th Ray of Concrete Knowledge and Science, but we can see how all advancements and developments are intended to apply to all. Inclusive love makes this possible. The basic purpose of science, technology, and medicine plays an important role in improving the conditions of human life and the world in which live. This is truly world service without personal gain for the most part – a spiritual goal for all of us.

The 2nd Ray’s Individual Expression through the Signs

From an astrological perspective, it is the Mutable Signs that have a particular affiliation with the 2nd Ray of Love and Wisdom. These are Sagittarius, Gemini, Pisces, and Virgo. Mutable simply means adaptable and flexible. It is the energy of love that allows for the development of these qualities. All of you mothers out there know all about the necessity of these qualities in order to survive and be successful in family living! Although these four signs have a particular affinity with the 2nd Ray of Love and Wisdom, it must also be understood that the 2nd Ray of Love/Wisdom is the overriding influence for all signs. This is the basic energy we are working with in our current time, regardless of any temporary sign influence. Each sign will of course have its own specialized focus within this greater influence. In other words, we all have our own unique way of understanding what love is and how we intend to make love work in the world through our various activities and implementations. It is our work and service that will show the specific qualities of our birth sign, but it will always involve the development of love in all that we do.

The Overall Perspective

To understand duality, we understand that we are always working with two things at the same time. Any two elements are part of the same “one consciousness” as they come together. What they create together produces something more than what each produces separately. Love is not more important than wisdom, and our emotional life is not more important than our mental development. They are basically two sides of the same coin, if you will. What is the middleman or middle principle that allows our feelings and thoughts to come together and make sense? This is love. Through an understanding and application of love in all that we say and do, we achieve wisdom. Its implementation happens through the establishment of equality in every way. We will become free in this process by understanding its spiritual necessity. Is it going to be challenging? Yes. Is it going to be difficult at times? Yes. Do we have what is required of us? We certainly do!
