“Ray Six – Devotion and Idealism”

Background g30391bdec 1920

Our discussion today involves “Ray Six – Idealism and Devotion”. This is an area we can all relate to, as it concerns our emotional life and the role it plays in our own creative process. Emotions are vital in the process because they provide the passion that is required for us to be interested and involved in our experience. What we desire to create in our lives begins in our minds with our beliefs. What we believe to be true and important is the motivation behind the actions we take. In other words, our entire life is based upon what we value or idealize. Let’s take a look.

Ideals

The ideas we have in our minds about our life and our world begin to take shape as we add that essential emotional quality to them. Things become more important to us if we feel they are important, you see. Once our ideas come alive with our feelings, we become impelled to take action and make them a reality. These ideas have now become our ideals or value system and what we live by. Our ideals are not just about living a life of practicality. They also include the things we are reaching up to. We all have a desire to be more or to become a better version of ourselves. The higher ideals of love and goodness, for example, are something we all aspire to. Some more than others, of course! As human beings, we have a natural tendency to prove what we believe to be true. The implication is that we realize we may not have a full understanding of something, but we intend to find out. This happens through our actual experience. Our ideals are our convictions. They are the things we are willing to stand up and fight for. These are the standards we live by.

Devotion

We do, in a very real way, devote our lives to what we believe. Devotion is really about our level of commitment. Are we willing to give it all we’ve got? As we proceed with living our passions and ideals, we must keep in mind that just because we believe something is true, doesn’t make it true. We cannot rely on belief and faith alone. Our goal is to bring things into ourselves and our world in a real and practical way, otherwise, they have no value. If what we believe to be true doesn’t turn out to be true in our experience, or at the very least, doesn’t pan out the way we expected it to, it’s time to let go and choose a different direction. If we devote ourselves to something at all costs when we see it isn’t working, we have lost our way. Our passions can also destroy us, you see.

The Bigger Picture

Although passion is an important part of making our beliefs real, it is still based on emotion. In a peculiar way, once we become emotional about something, we have made it be about us. As you may recall, emotions are temporary and subject to change. It is true that for much of our experience, we must take care of ourselves first by acquiring what we need in a personal way. The ultimate goal, however, is to be able to perceive what is important for the greater whole. This is where those “higher ideals” come into play. When we make everything about us, we lose sight of the bigger picture, the welfare of humanity, and the condition of the world. When we personalize our beliefs and ideals, we have created exclusivity. This is undesirable in the long term. The truth is that many of our beliefs or ideals are not possible just yet, or they have no basis in reality at all. If something is true and meant to be, it will eventually show up and provide its practical value. What is happening in the world today is that many individuals and groups want something so badly, they do not see the harm they are creating. Their passions have overwhelmed them. If our beliefs or “perceived truth” have no basis in fact, but we continue to pursue them anyway, destruction will result. The search for truth or the pursuit of higher ideals must be accompanied by humility. We forget that we do not necessarily know what we claim to know. If we are to make our higher ideals a reality, we must allow those incredible and unimaginable forces working behind the scenes to come through us. Humility!

Ray Six through our Institutions

The energy of idealism and devotion can be seen quite clearly in the areas of religion and our military forces. Fighting for what we believe in is the common ground here. To be dedicated or devoted to what we stand for might begin with good intent, but it has unfortunately been responsible for much unnecessary suffering and loss of life. What has been forgotten is that almost all war in our history was in the support of various religious beliefs. Both our military forces and our religious institutions have as their foundation an exclusive belief system. All we have really been attempting to do is defend a false sense of righteousness. If we have to prove we are correct and create harm in the process, we have gone astray. This is the case with both these institutions. It has come time for us to take a step back and remind ourselves of the higher ideals we are aspiring to. There is really only one religion, you see, that of love and equality. For our beliefs to be true, they must apply to all individuals and groups. We have therefore made our ideals have practical value in every way. Humanity is moving in the direction of inclusiveness and fairness. This is most definitely worth defending.

Ray Six through the Signs

The energy of Ray Six – Idealism and Devotion finds its way again to the mutable signs of Sagittarius, Gemini, Pisces, and Virgo. If you recall, these four signs are strongly affiliated with the 2nd Ray of Love and Wisdom. The difference here is that Ray Six applies at a more personal or emotional level to our experience. The foundation to the larger ideas and concepts, and the quality they exhibit, begins on the plane of mind, which is where we as souls maintain our consciousness. As these energies come down to us as individuals, we attach that essential emotional component in order to feel more connected to the creation of those ideas. We are making things real, right here where we live and breathe! In other words, the 2nd Ray of Love and Wisdom is the higher octave of the 6th Ray of Idealism and Devotion. All aspects of consciousness have a mental and emotional component to them, as you can see. We are essentially manifesting the reality of love through our devotion to it. Our mission in life is indeed an emotional one!

The Overall Perspective

Could humanity be in the process of changing its direction? I think so. We are quite literally altering our course by changing our minds about what we truly value. Honestly, money isn’t all there is to existence. Are we moving away from the belief that money and material things are permanent, thereby giving them power over us? I certainly hope so. If we hold on to the belief that we are all by ourselves and this is all there is, we will never become aware of the glory of what we are becoming. We are presented with the opportunity to idealize and bring forth something that is long-lasting. Our ideals can shift from pure self-interest to the needs of the greater whole. The truth is, we can never be the more that we seek without letting go of what we have been. Let’s devote ourselves to something bigger and better!
