One of the most important Universal Principles for us to consider is “The Continuity of Life and Consciousness”. To begin, it is critical for us to understand that once something has been created, it will continue to exist forever. This is confusing, for all things appear to die, including us, but this is simply the form in which the life inhabits that passes. You see, it is life and consciousness that we truly are, and we as life and consciousness continue forward on an amazing journey through time. Indeed, for all eternity. This may be overwhelming for many of you to realize, for it is believed by you that only God is the eternal one. But, my friends, I remind you that we are in fact part of God. It follows, then, that if God or the universe is eternal, so are we. All is one thing. It may also be true that many of us believe in eternal life, but this eternal life exists outside the physical world. One seems to have no relationship to the other. Although, ultimately, this is the case, there is also a great purpose for our physical existence, for the physical part of our life and consciousness as well. The implication here is that our life will continue through many physical forms until the purpose of physical existence is fulfilled. Yes, my fellow companions, we have lived before, and we will live again. Now the question arises, “Why do we not remember, or have any conscious realization of such a fact?” We’ll get to that in just a moment. Let me first say that the importance of the continuity of life and consciousness brings forth the idea of evolution and constant change. This is our first step, our first acceptance. The only real constant of God or the universe is the forward movement of all life. It is a beautiful reality in which we participate.
Until the plan and purpose of our physical world is complete, we will continue coming back here. It is this, my friends, we have little say about. But, the beauty of the plan provides for us a willingness to participate, for we as life desire to express ourselves in many forms. We as a soul intend to express the wholeness from which we came. We must remember that we are a soul that expresses through a form, this form being a physical body. We are not the form, we are the life and consciousness within the form. We also know that the soul is made of light and love, so our goal, our mission, is to bring this reality to a new place called the physical world. Having clarified this most important purpose, we know that physical forms do not last. They are simply temporary vehicles within the context of time. Form exists in time, life and consciousness exist in eternity. So, if the soul wishes to express itself fully, if our mission is to become complete, we create another physical form in which to inhabit. Here we have the necessity of multiple lives, and multiple time periods, in order to bring to fruition our particular role. I suggest to you that all life has a Divine Intent, or a Divine Will, to perpetuate itself and therefore manifest itself until the purpose is fulfilled. My intent is not to prove anything to you, my friends, I can only give you much to think about. It is your willingness to understand that will bring to you understanding.
I begin this series with the principle of multiple lives, or the continuity of consciousness, because when you accept this basic premise, everything else I have to say about our great world, and indeed, this incredible universe in which we exist, will make a lot more sense to you. I ask of you, my friends, to say to yourself, “I live because I am life, I am because I am.” There is nothing to fear. We are here to learn about something new. We grow because of the Divine Mandate to always know more, to know more of who we are. With each successive lifetime, we do see this to be true. We become more perfect. We look around and see many different kinds of people, many different ways of living and being. We also see some to have greater intelligence, some to have greater love. How could this be? Some of our fellow human beings have acquired great freedom, while others continue to suffer horribly and unnecessarily. How could this be, how could this be about love and fairness, you ask? When will it all make sense? Well, the answer is quite simple. Aren’t they always?! Each individual soul, each of us, does not arrive in this new adventure at the same time. However, what we must know, beyond any doubt, is that each of us does come from the same place, and each of us will return to that same place when our work is done. In a very definite way, my friends, each of us follows the same plan, we have the same curriculum, if you will. Deep under the surface of it all, we have the same goal. Each of us will develop great intelligence, each will acquire the love necessary to be free again, to return to that wonderful place. And, it will happen for all of us, this is a guarantee. Before this can happen, however, we must understand the beauty and purpose of what we’re creating now. We must fulfill our dream, right here in the physical world, and we must give it all we’ve got to help others do the same. Life grows and continues, we move forward together.
A full realization of ourselves as a soul, what our purpose really is, and to acquire a complete understanding of the meaning of love, takes a very long time. We cannot expect to achieve this in eighty years. Does this make more sense to you now? Many of you have already accepted the idea of reincarnation, you may somewhat comprehend the universal law of rebirth, and its very necessity, but you may also get caught up in some futile attempt to be consciously aware of these past and future lives I speak of. I understand the interest, but in most cases, it will not happen, because of the need for practicality. Practically speaking, the majority of human beings do not have the level of awareness, nor the much-needed ability, to handle it just yet. Who we have been before has no value, for it has already been done. You see, who we have been before, what we have learned in our past, has already been incorporated into who and what we are now. This is practical value. What I can tell you, however, is that our soul does have this kind of awareness. Our higher self, our spirit, is not bound by the heavy limitations of time. At much higher levels of consciousness, there is no time as we know it. Past, present, and future are one. Are you there yet? Probably not, nor am I. Let’s keep in mind that for anything to be made available to us, it must serve a practical purpose. For example, there may be a need to recall a past life, for there was a great trauma experienced, which created a great judgement or misunderstanding. In most cases, these will be resolved over time. We do not have to worry, for with new experience, we will make the necessary correction. In some cases, however, an emotional or psychological scar can be so severe as to incapacitate a human being, to the point that he or she is unable to function properly in the current life. There are many of these people who exist in our world today, and I’ll leave it to you to notice the kinds of behavior some of our fellow brothers and sisters are prone to because of it. The good news is, there are individuals among us who can work with these unfortunate conditions, true healers, who can help remove these great obstacles that exist in the human mind. Past life regression, techniques of this kind, do exist. In the not too distant future, the medical and psychiatric communities will bring this skill forward. This will undoubtably greatly assist many human beings in moving forward in life more quickly, in a joyful and healthy way. A great blessing to all of us, a certainty. But again, I remind you, there are few who can use this energy and technique properly and effectively. I understand your interest, but I would have you proceed with caution. And my friends, as far as future lives go, they are a guarantee. The practical value here, we’re building that better life today.
A basic acceptance of the continuation of life brings us so much more in terms of possibility. Forgiveness, redemption, freedom from guilt, these are all things we can and will properly deal with when given another chance. I do say, when we give ourselves another chance. How about the ability to relax, to trust, to let life unfold. With enough time, we will. We don’t have to know everything right now, we don’t have to get it all right today. You see, the reality of living forever provides us the willingness to fully participate in every moment. We have less doubt, we have less need to worry. However, it may also provide us with the idea that we don’t have to try, for some future time awaits. I encourage you, my friends, to find the proper balance. We have much opportunity to grow, to heal, to find truth, to gain in our understanding. Again, as the Masters often say, “We have plenty of time, but there’s no time to waste!” Much opportunity is upon us, we have everything we need. We do in fact have enough, but we must accept it, use it, and allow it to carry us forward.
I part ways with you, my friends, by telling you the most important thing you must understand today, and it may appear as though I contradict everything just said. Although the fact of multiple lives will greatly assist you, for it will help you relax and trust your journey, it is only this life that matters. Let all the rest go. In all honesty and practicality, there’s no need to view the past or the future, for we have plenty right in front of us! Eternal life, indeed life everlasting, happens now. All opportunity, all future development, resides in this present moment. Live, and love, and be. Life makes sense when we do the best we can. Now is all there is, and that’s ok. The life of the soul unfolds.
