“The Grand Experiment”

Tree 736885 1920

I think we all wonder at times why we signed up for all this! You may be saying to yourself, “my God, I’m giving it my best shot, I’m really trying here”. Then you become aware of how long it takes to create even the smallest changes. I understand. Your challenges are great, no doubt, but you may have begun to have a feeling of exhaustion you couldn’t explain if you tried. Sound familiar? I thought we would take a little time today and discuss our origins a little bit, and what we’re actually doing here on this great planet of ours. My approach tends to be somewhat philosophical at times, because I believe we need to have a sense of childlike wonder about things in order to be willing to learn anything at all. What we need more than anything else, girls and boys, is a sense of humor as we move forward. We’re going to give ourselves permission, because if we don’t, we’re not going to make it. At the very least, we’re going to have a hell of a time in life when we really don’t have to. So, let’s take a deep breath and understand that there is nothing happening in our lives or the world that will ultimately destroy our existence. Can we accept this? Can we give it a try? Can we let go and have a little faith? I think we can. Let’s take a look.

Where did we come from?

Primordial ooze. The dawn of creation. Is that who we used to be, just a sticky, gooey substance with no form? Well, kind of. Universal waters might be a more accurate description. Yes, we are born of the nurturing waters of the universal mother. We were greatly loved, always, and we really didn’t have a care in the world. Nothing to worry about. My friends, we have no reason to believe this has changed by us being here. God didn’t just shove us out of our home, say goodbye, and you’re on your own. The truth is, we are always supported, even now. We have just forgotten who we are. The reason for this, we’ll get to in a moment. With all this talk about oneness and togetherness, you might say, “well Todd, that sounds really good, but I don’t feel that way at all”. I feel separate, I’m lonely, and I want to go home now. Come on now, you’re ok, it’s going to be ok. Go out and experience nature, all the beautiful plants and animals for a moment. Life is real and everything has a purpose. We all have a purpose, and it’s right around the corner. Do we really have to know something in order to enjoy life? We have become so attached to our physical form and physical life that we won’t even entertain the idea that we might be something more. If we believe we know something, if we believe we have it all figured out, if we believe this is all there is, then we’re in trouble folks. It’s time to let go and laugh at ourselves. All we’re really attempting to do is allow our own egos to dictate a limited reality that does not exist. Don’t worry, we’ll remember one day, and it might be sooner than we expect. We wake up some mornings and feel an undefinable insecurity and want to give up. We look up to the heavens and ask, “is this a joke”? “Are we simply a puppet in some unknown creator’s game”? It’s our own fear and arrogance creating this game. Breath and laugh. Guess what? We can wake up from our slumber and begin to participate in the “Grand Experiment”. Let’s remember what we signed up for and what’s involved, for we are not victims. What we are attempting to do or create has never been done before. This adventure we’re on is fraught with challenges, no doubt, but can’t it also be exciting? We can build a relationship with our purpose and feel good about it. We intend to accomplish what we came here to do.

Why are we here?

Oh boy, this is a complicated question. Is it really, though? There is a central life, and we’re a portion of this central life. This is the only awareness we had at the beginning of time. Wholeness is all we knew. If we understand ourselves to be beings of consciousness, and the expansion of consciousness is our goal, then this central life decided to become aware of itself apart from its own center. The waters of life, which is our spiritual home, were without definition in a sense. This is where we come in. God sent out a flyer saying there was something new that had been created. It’s a new plane of existence called the physical world. You can go there and explore something unique and exciting, and possibly even create something that didn’t exist before. You know how we can be. We thought, that sounds really neat, I think I’d like to participate in that! So, we signed up for a new journey and here we are. What’s new about it all is the “I” part or the “we” part. These states of awareness did not exist until now. So, the grand experiment begins. We left the security and safety of our home and entered an amazing adventure. Some 60 billion souls joined the journey. What we will discover is ourselves as individual sparks of light within a central flame of pure knowing. The reason behind us wanting to know ourselves as individual entities remains a mystery. The fact that most of us do not remember having made this decision does not matter in the end. With an honest look, we can all recognize an undeniable feeling in our hearts and minds of some kind of Divine Imperative. We must know. What I can say is that we are the physical part of the universe. God can now see who and what He or She is through us. Now that’s extraordinary! Getting back to our story, when we arrived here, we go oh shit! Where are we? Where’s Mom and Dad. What have we done? The birth of fear has entered our experience. Our journey here involves a temporary separation from our spiritual home. We do get to go back there some day, but as the Masters have said, “the time is not yet”. Don’t worry, don’t be scared, the pathway for our return journey has already been provided. This place we inhabit is certainly dark and uninviting at times, but guess what? As beings of light and love, we’re here to light up this joint as representatives of the heart and mind of God. What an opportunity! Before we get too excited, there are a few things we need to resolve. Yes, we have issues! What may not have been anticipated by this unknown central life, is that our ego would gain power of its own. Our egos have a great design and purpose to keep us safe in this new place. The problem, however, is that it only knows this place. In other words, the ego tries to keep us a little too safe. Our ego has created a fog of fear that limits our awareness. We have forgotten. Again, there’s no need to be alarmed. We can fix it. We can begin by understanding that we are in fact two people at once. We are a physical being, this is the ego. We are also a soul. This is our true self. This part of us is much bigger. If our real self is such a huge light, we cannot remain lost forever. We have the ability to see!

Religious misunderstanding

We made a mistake. We went against God by choosing to be here. We are nothing but “fallen angels”. Does this really make sense to you? Most of the world religions, especially the Christian Church, have condemned us before we’ve even had a chance to learn. The real tragedy, then, is that we feel defeated as soon as we exit the womb. The reality is that if this is in fact a brand-new experience, or a brand-new creation, we are most definitely going to make mistakes. If this has never been done before, how can we know how to do it until we try? If I could present a little truth here, if God is all things, then there is nothing that exists that is not God. If that is the case, how could there be anyone or anything that is ultimately wrong? We are children in this new place. We are maturing in this world through our own experiences. If the leaders of the various religions are unable to provide practical solutions to help us be more successful in our daily lives, and be actively involved as human beings alongside us, then their teachings have no value and must be abandoned. It is true that we need to have some parameters or boundaries, but they need to be realistic. We need to explore this new world and find the best way to bring forth the light and love that we are. This is our Divine Mandate. The religious institutions, as they present themselves today, are not allowing us the opportunity to truly and consciously participate in this “Grand Experiment”. This can change, but it isn’t looking likely at this point. In order for them to survive, we would need people who have a little more understanding and experience to enter these existing institutions and provide us with some much-needed, practical spiritual truth. All things are possible. The other thing that must be carefully born in mind as we move forward, is that if we do in fact fail in our venture, and this possibility always exists, we can return to our spiritual home, regroup, and try again when the time is right. It is my belief and understanding, however, that humanity’s success in this grand adventure is more possible today than ever before. The religious institutions of the world have nothing to say about what is possible for us, or our ability or inability to succeed. It’s up to us. We are free souls. We are strong, intelligent, and incredibly loving. We are spirit.

Emotional and psychological independence

To become a mature spiritual being, we need to grow up and accept our responsibilities. Part of this growing up involves the need to become emotionally and psychologically independent in our lives. So, returning to our story, we left the womb of the universal mother to discover ourselves as individuals. We are learning how to become conscious, in order to create a new and unique quality we can add to the central life from which we came. This analogy applies to our physical life as well when we leave our physical mother and our childhood home. We move out into the world and create our own experiences, which provide us with self-understanding and self-realization. This unfortunately brings in that fear and sense of separation. We must have faith that this “condition” is but a temporary illusion. We can overcome this discomfort by seeing the need to come together in common purpose and objective as we go about our individual lives. We essentially have the same need to be successful in this journey. This unites us in desire, you see. The need for us to develop this individualized selfhood will remain unclear for quite some time. It’s ok. We don’t have to know everything right now in order to proceed. It is critical, however, that we try. I will also say that the apparent contradiction between the establishment of ourselves as independent individuals, and our essential oneness, is also a temporary state of awareness, nothing more. We must accept that we do not have the capacity of mind to understand just yet, but we are well on our way. What we can do now, and must do now, is separate ourselves from the mass consciousness or belief system that is inhibiting the development of our own selfhood and potential understanding. We need to decide what we believe and what is true by paying attention to our own experience. This is real independence. Nobody else can do this for us. The current belief system within humanity at large is a blinding fog of fear and misconception. It is entirely of an emotional nature, I might add. We have lost our ability to think clearly or think at all. To be able to get back to that space of clarity, we must stop emotionally reacting to absolutely everything. The overwhelming feelings of fear, anxiety, and apprehension can be overcome by cooperating with the companionship all around us. Think for yourself. Just think!

So, we’re gliding on our surfboard through the universal waters and get to this new place. Wow! This is really cool! Everything is so beautiful! Then we look in the other direction. Oh, I see. Nothing but a thick mud. Dark, cold, and damp. We can’t see, we can’t move, we can’t do anything. Now we’re saying, “I knew it was too good to be true”. Why did I come here anyway? I want to go home now. Guess what? All we have to do is look back the other way and see what we saw when we arrived. A beautiful, perfect view.

Our return home and the newly found self

To develop a new quality, to create a new experience for the greater universe, is what we came here to do. Don’t we want something incredible to talk about once we return home, and we surely will some day? I think what we can do now, is not allow a small group of selfish individuals to decide the destiny of humanity. It is possible to wake up from our deep slumber. We need to choose this now. It is also quite possible that we fail, and we will return to our spiritual home with nothing to share. I have a strong sense that we will succeed. I think we all need to remember who we really are, and remember as well, all the hard work we have already put into this beautiful place. Do we honestly want to abandon everything, and say we can’t do it? There are millions of people who truly care about the welfare of humanity and the world. Are you one of these people? Please join us today. We could use a little help. Once there are enough of us that believe love can work, we will achieve enough momentum to change our direction. We decide. We choose.

My friends, we’re just beginning to see the glory of what is happening here! We can’t give up just yet. What we are currently experiencing is all the preliminary work that needs to take place first. We are strong, and we have everything we need to get the job done. You see, we are good at what we do, otherwise we wouldn’t be here!

All my love and support, be well
