“Getting A Fresh Start”

A book 5178205 1920 (1)

There may come a time in our life when we just need to start over. Whether it be a job, a relationship, or maybe just life in general. We try and try, but we keep hitting the wall, no matter how we go about things. How frustrating is that? Getting a fresh start may be exactly what we’re looking for. Perhaps we have reached the end in terms of being able to change what exists. It may be time to let go, move on, and try something brand new. Personally, I have started over in my life more times than I care to say. Beginning life anew certainly has its challenges, but it also has its opportunities and rewards. Before you abandon everything and jump off the cliff, however, there are a few things to keep in mind. Let’s take a look.

Starting Over or Running Away?

If you have done your best and tried everything to the best of your ability, it may be time to go back to the beginning and have a really close look at your life. There is no need to erase all of it. Perhaps you just have to make some necessary adjustments to what you have already created and try again. If that doesn’t work, you may have to let it go and begin to create something entirely new. It’s ok to do that. It doesn’t mean you have failed in any way. Let things go and give yourself a chance to gain a new perspective. If you’re miserable, this must be recognized, as you cannot continue to pursue things in the same way and expect them to change. The prospects of a new beginning are scary indeed, but sometimes it is the only way. If you decide to confront the fear of it all and move on, be very clear to those around you of what’s going on. You don’t have to know exactly what it is you’re attempting to do, just say, “something is wrong, I don’t feel good about myself anymore, or I just need some change in my life”. That’s all there is to it. It’s very important, however, to be aware of whether you might just be trying to run away from your current challenges. How do you know if this is the case? Well, the next set of life circumstances will point that out to you! Regardless of a new relationship, a different job, or whatever area that requires change, you may find yourself with similar experiences that you had before. It’s still ok, though, for a simple change in your “life atmosphere” may in fact give you that fresh look at things. The point here is that we cannot ultimately hide from what it is we’re working on. We must continue plugging along, sometimes with a new set of circumstances, and we will find our way eventually. It’s all good, nothing to worry about. All we have to do is try. Life will show us what we need to do.

Responsibility vs. Obligation

Our apprehension in getting that new start in life is mostly due to a strange and unnecessary obligation we feel toward the people in our life and our typical way of going about things. “This is the way I’ve always done it” is not a sufficient motivation to hang on and keep things the same. As far as the other people in our life, they will either understand and support us or not. We can’t simply remain in our misery in hopes of making others comfortable. This is a difficult, and sometimes painful, realization. Honestly, some of the people in our life may be part of the problem, so we need to honor ourselves and let them go. Are we being cruel and irresponsible in walking away? I don’t think so. Our first priority is loving and taking care of ourselves. It certainly isn’t easy, but we must trust the process and take the risk. Obligation is not the same as responsibility. Our responsibility is recognizing the issues we have, deciding to honestly deal with them, and doing this in a way that works for us. We are not responsible to others through obligation. We are responsible to ourselves first, by finding peace and wholeness in all that we do.

Put Some Paint on the Canvas!

Are you ready to begin anew? Think of life as a blank, white canvas. The universe, of which we’re a part, always exists in a state of “potential” expression. It’s up to us what we want to do next. If you’re not sure how to begin, go ahead and pick your favorite color, place a drop of it on the canvas, and watch it develop! We have the ability to create whatever we want, it’s entirely up to us. To understand our purpose, or to know what the plan for our life is, is a desire we all have. If we want to participate more consciously, we must take charge of ourselves and engage with the creative process itself. We can cooperate with the “higher” plan by cooperating with ourselves. Let’s get fully onboard and decide to move forward this year in every way we can. If we need a fresh start, we must give ourselves the opportunity. Life is waiting!

All my love and support, be well
