“Harmlessness”

A book 5178205 1920 (1)

There are many requirements to complete our journey on the Path of Discipleship. Indeed, in order for us to understand the true life of the soul, we must develop certain qualities within ourselves, an essential character, that will help us become this greater self we seek. The most important quality, the most important state of mind every disciple must develop, is harmlessness. Harmlessness in thought, harmlessness in feeling, harmlessness in overall attitude, and, of course, harmlessness in action. Dearest friends, a very difficult achievement! It takes a long time. Rest assured, however, the love within your heart will guarantee all success.

Harmlessness is developed and created by an understanding of what love actually is. Remember, love is not really an emotional state. Rather, it is a powerful energy which attracts all that exists on the outside to the self, to the center of that self, where everyone and everything are already one. Love is the energy which sustains the life principle to be found in every form we see, both in the physical world, and the spiritual world we are becoming more aware of. In our current reality, then, we can understand life and love to be essentially the same thing, for life is all there is, and life is but a full expression of love. The implication here is that no matter how isolated or identified the individual self is with itself, as the part, this part is included in yet a greater whole. The one is the many, and the many is the one. Hard to conceptualize, I know! Love is an awareness and feeling of the self as part of everything, and that everything as part of the self. A true awareness and understanding of what life is, is that it is only one thing. Love is the tool we have available to us, to gain the experience we need, in order to have this kind of awareness. From that all important practical perspective, then, if we are everything, and everything is us, we would not want to harm any part, for we would essentially only be harming ourselves.

A state of harmlessness is difficult to achieve, for we are indeed quite sensitive creatures, are we not? This will turn out to be a very good thing, but in the meantime, it has a tendency to hurt a lot. We have a longstanding habit of an emotional reaction to every thought, every word, and every action. Not just coming from others, but toward ourselves. I think what we can all do, friends, is simply recognize that everyone is sensitive, everyone has hurt and pain inside. And, there is no person who really wants this. What we need to also understand is that there are many people who have no capacity to address, to deal with, this pain. They are very likely, then, to strike out at others in order to be free of it. We need to realize, in all honesty, each of us does this, at least occasionally. If this is a common behavior, something we all share, then perhaps we can give ourselves a break, and others too. Fellow companions, healing is not possible without acceptance happening first. Acceptance allows forgiveness to follow. Let us remember that pain and misunderstanding are temporary. A lack of awareness in terms of how to heal is also temporary. It takes time to learn how to do it right. Again, we’re all going through the same things. We’re all trying. We all must try. Let’s give a little leeway to our fellow brothers and sisters, and to ourselves as well. Let’s practice, for practice is the only way to eventual success. Love has inclusion at the core of its very nature. After all, how can the one be known, how can wholeness be understood, without the establishment of a relationship with the many? As simple as it sounds, we have to be together in order to truly understand love, what it really is, what it can do, what it can ultimately create.

Friends, we all harm ourselves, we all harm others, we all take advantage of everything around us. We all screw up, we all make mistakes, indeed, we all have to deal with the consequences of our thoughts, feelings, words, and actions. So, how can we be ok with that until the better way is found? Well, first, we need to know, beyond any doubt, a better way will be found. Second, we must be willing to move along from every momentary hurt, even if the resolution to it is not apparent. Third, and most importantly, we must be constantly aware of what our intent is. Many of you may disagree with this, but most human beings have no intent to harm. I will tell you, we simply want to be free. We are so hard on our own selves that we fail to accept the little opportunities to learn and grow, to find something new, something better. Again, the majority of human beings have more love inside of them than they realize. If you do not love and forgive yourselves, you will continue to make others responsible for that love. Hence, the constant hurt and demand. It is our intent that matters most. My friends, you know what love is, you know you mean well. Just keep going. I suggest that it’s only our intent that needs clarification, and this clearer intent can only be developed through experience, a lot of experience. Love just needs a chance. Love needs a constant attention, a constant effort, and a constant practice. There is no person, there is no life, that can be permanently harmed or damaged by anything. It is only our attachment to the hurt that creates a sense of permanence. Ok? If our intent is loving and absolutely clear, we will know of the necessity of detachment. In other words, we cannot take things so personally if we are to survive in life, if we are to find that much-needed better way. Nothing is forever. Let it go.

A harmless state of consciousness is mostly about our thoughts. Yes, thoughts are real things. They also create harm, without us even knowing. A house cleaning is in order! Very challenging, no doubt. Negative patterns of thinking keep us trapped in the past. Everything we feel inside of us, and everything we see outside of us, will degenerate into something they are not, until these limiting thoughts are overcome. The beauty of how things really are, my friends, will not be correctly perceived. Reality is a state of mind. There is nothing else. When you notice yourself entertaining these unproductive thoughts, let your awareness that it is happening be enough. In other words, if you judge them, you are guaranteeing their return. Notice, accept, then choose something else. Harmlessness is the ultimate goal, but if you expect to be perfect at it, you will never see progress, you will never win. To all my fellow human beings, especially my fellow men, not everything is bad. Not everything is wrong. Not everything outside of you is against you. It just isn’t true, no matter what your mind suggests. Alright? Make an effort. Change what you believe to be incorrect, by changing your own incorrect thinking. Believe, in every moment, the potential for good. Your perception of the reality in which you have been actively involved in creating will therefore transform entirely. A willingness to relate will have the end result of friendship and understanding, all that is meant to be. Give it a try!

The development of harmlessness takes everything we’ve got. It involves every part of ourselves. Friends, if you are hurt by another, if you receive an unprovoked attack, and we all do, it is a natural inclination to return it the same way it was received. It will take enormous willpower to choose a different response. Remember the intent. The intent is to heal and overcome. If all you are able to do is walk away, then walk away. This is a loving action. If you attack back, you only reinforce similar behavior in the future. You see, we have no obligation to engage. Unfortunately, oftentimes, a person’s pain is all they have. It is all they know, it is their best friend. But, it gets tiring, it gets lonely, doesn’t it? So, what follows, is an attempt to bring others into that pain to resolve the sense of isolation. This is all that is happening. To truly understand the purpose of love, we do not include ourselves in another person’s refusal to heal. Even walking away is supportive. Why? Because, from love, from our understanding of our own process, we know they can do it on their own. In whatever way that we can, we must find a way to return this projection, this very bad habit, this lack of ownership, to its originating source, in a way that will produce the healing and understanding that must happen for all. This constant hurting back and forth, we have to stop it. It doesn’t work. Remember, the ego will always attempt to win, no matter the cost. The reality is, if harm has been created in this unnecessary game, whether it be to the other person, or to ourselves, nobody wins. A recognition of sameness, and a simple reminder of a harmless intent, will encourage us to take that step back at every opportunity. We can do it.

Achieving a state of harmlessness gets far more subtle as we move along. Dearest friends, self-centeredness, an unintended isolation, creates harm. Taking more than we really need creates harm. Allowing our creative ability to take the form of only money creates harm. An unwillingness to try, to change, if it becomes necessary, creates even more harm. Carelessness, or, thoughtlessness, is the antithesis of harmlessness. Every disciple must have a full understanding of what love really is and means, and how to use it properly in every opportunity presented, in order to develop this most necessary harmlessness. A harmless intent is required in order to truly create, to truly create what benefits all. The incredible gifts coming from the level of the soul cannot be received without it. And, fellow disciples, harmlessness is not a passive state. It is a complete engagement. You see, we cannot be afraid to try. We can’t even be afraid to hurt, to hurt ourselves, or to hurt others, in this most important discovery and development of harmlessness. Deeply consider this statement, friends, it has much to offer you. The soul, the Hierarchy, wants to give us all that we need. But, we have to do our share. We have to do the work, and then all shall indeed be given.

In all love, we succeed. In all love, we create the better way. In all love, harmlessness is achieved.

Our intent is the Will-to-Good
From this place of eternal intent, all goodwill necessarily follows

Be well, friends, I’m so glad you’re here!
