Did you ever wonder how you got to be where you are? It’s really amazing if you take the time to think about it. All things considered, we may be surprised we have survived at all! Life is indeed challenging and wonderful, scary and joyous, all at the same time. There are those times when we feel all alone and wonder if we can really do it. There are also those times when we feel successful and together, and these are the times we need to be grateful, for we did not arrive here all by ourselves. I have found it helpful to take the time and acknowledge all those who have assisted me in being who I am and where I am today. Without them, my accomplishments would have no meaning. No matter who you are or how successful you may be, it’s important to understand it took many other people to help you get there. This we often forget. Go within and create that space of appreciation and gratitude, for it will involve a necessary feeling of humility. Being humble is critical in our life journey, for we can have no sense of lasting purpose without it. Maybe even more importantly, we will never feel alone. We need to honor our teachers, guides and mentors, as they are showing us who we essentially are. When the time is right, we’ll be the same for someone else. What we may not realize is that this kind of assistance and support not only happens in our outer life, but our inner life as well. Many of us remain unaware of what is going on behind the scenes, and the love and support that is always available. Let’s go ahead and take a look at both the teachers we can see and the many we cannot. All of them together allow us to have a better understanding of ourselves, our life and where we’re ultimately headed in our journey to greatness.
The teachers we know and see in our daily life
Whether we realize it or not, our world is actually a great school of learning. It is a place to become educated in all aspects of living. An appropriate attitude would be to view ourselves as children, for if we understood everything already, we would not be here in the first place. This is a healthy perception on our part, because in the eyes of a child we see the inherent wonder and eagerness, and that willingness to “want to know”. This openness is essential in order for us to gather the necessary information we need to gain understanding about ourselves and the world we live in. If we take a closer look at all the beautiful children in our world, we can see the idea of humility and respect to be a natural state for them as they go about their business. Perhaps we could reacquaint ourselves with this very important quality! With this in mind, there are countless educators all around us with the goal of improving our life and condition. This segment of humanity has a very powerful level of dedication and commitment we often forget about. The people in our educational system have such an important relationship with what our children, and the rest of us need, that they are willing to do their work with little pay and an unfortunate low level of respect from us. I believe this is changing with our willingness to take a look at our value system. We must remember that we have entrusted the safety and welfare of our children to them, and they are doing their best to provide the education we all require to function in the world. All things considered, it should be clear they are coming from their heart and care enormously about their work, or they would be unwilling to participate at all. Let’s take the time to acknowledge all the great teachers in their various fields, for they do deserve our respect and gratitude. Thank you!
There’s another kind of teacher we have in our life as well. We all know of that certain someone who has taken a special interest in us and have therefore helped guide us in our life. These are our mentors who hope to support us in every way they can, so we are able to be safe and successful. These relationships are generally of a higher quality, and quite personal as well. It could be a family member, friend, or teacher. It doesn’t matter, we know who they are. Give them a hug and tell them how much you appreciate their love and support. Without them, we could not be who we are today. They have taken the time to care about us and give us that extra special push when we need one. Thank you!
The “Wise Ones” working behind the scenes
That other voice, you know the one, the voice within us. It’s not our voice, but someone or something else? Yes, believe it or not, there’s an entire educational system at work in our inner life as well. Many of us don’t pay enough attention, or perhaps are totally unaware of this necessary support system. We are just beginning to understand that our outer life in the physical world is only one part of our experience. Are we crazy to be aware of this inner voice? I certainly hope not, for this voice has some important information and guidance for us. Again, we are not alone. There is in fact a whole group of spiritual beings that exist alongside our physical life. We may not be able to see or touch them, but they are there, with us always. These are beings that have been where we are and have gone through what we are currently experiencing. Their goal and work concern our greater spiritual development. Their love, wisdom, and support is always available if we would but listen. Although we would like to believe that we know everything, or at least know more than we really do, the reality is that we know very little about our life and existence. This, they wish to impart to us. If we want to know more and have a better sense of ourselves, we can look into it. Whether a greater existence is an actual reality is relatively unimportant. What is important for us to understand, is that we will grow and become more aware of ourselves, whether we want to or not! The most important of these spiritual beings is that of our own higher self. This is the one that knows where we are and where we need to be. Sometimes the voice is gentle and loving, and sometimes it’s a little more willful. If we’re feeling supported and cared about, or even if we’re hearing something we don’t want to hear, but know it’s right in our heart, that’s when we need to listen and pay attention. It is real. We don’t need to know everything about this kind of support right away, just be receptive. Humility, gratitude, open minds and open hearts, will get us there a little sooner. Thanks to all of you teachers and guides working behind the scenes!
Be a teacher, be a guide, be a mentor
The very best way we can show our appreciation for what has been given us is to give back in any and every way we can. Spend some time with a child who needs you. Take care of a friend who’s hurting. Tell them what you know. Tell them what works for you. Give your love and time, we could all use some.
We all have a teacher, a guide, a mentor that lives inside us, just waiting to come out and play! Thank you!
All my love and support, stay safe and be well
