We spend a long time in our journey here on Earth believing we are separate from everything else. I think we can all recognize how this feels and what it creates in our lives. It feels lonely and creates an unfortunate sense of isolation. At times, the fear overwhelms us, and we wonder if it will ever change. We then go about finding some kind of connection in any way possible in hopes of relieving this inner and outer tension. What we have inevitably created for ourselves is a perception of our life and the world we’re living in as one of a constant and unavoidable duality. We somehow know in our hearts and minds that there must be some way we can heal this gap and feel whole and complete once again. Some of us understand from a higher, universal perspective, this dualistic nature of our reality is false and merely a temporary one. We get it at an intellectual level, but at a feeling level, we’re at a loss. Our suffering continues. What can we do? How can we create a sense of belonging and feel connected to all things? The truth is, we are well on our way, and we are so close, we can almost see an entirely different reality. Our goal is to change our orientation and perception from one of “me against the world” to one of “me with the world”. This we can do. This we must do. We can choose. Let’s take a look at a couple of things that are inhibiting our achievement of this most important goal.
Lines of Light
All things in this great universe of ours are connected by lines of light. Each of our minds is one of these lines of light. To heal or bridge the apparent gap that exists between this and that, or you and me, involves our ability to develop and engage with all kinds of relationships. The relationships we have with others, with ourselves, and with the world, all help us understand the connection that exists. Our mind is not necessarily our friend in this case, for its job is to separate, analyze, qualify and quantify. It is an awesome tool, but it also has its limitations. If there is this and that, or you and me, it implies there is something in the middle or in between. What allows us to build relationships and make connections is our own heart. Love is the vehicle by which we heal all gaps and bring everything together. In order to make this work, we must feel the love that is present.
Our Personal World Philosophy
Although each of us has a unique perspective about life and the world, we need to find what is similar out there if we ever hope to feel connected. We can begin by letting go of the idea that we have something figured out, and everyone else is wrong. We are smart, no doubt, but if we actually “knew” something, we would be somewhere else! Let your desire to know more be your pathway to wisdom. Our personal philosophy must include all the pathways outside us as well. This kind of awareness is much safer and a lot more comfortable. The pathway or relationship that exceeds all others is the one we have with the higher self, living within. If we’re going to make connections, we might as well make them all. The reality is that there are still many in our world who have no inner connections at all. There are people who have no connection between their thoughts and feelings, their inner world and the outer world, or their words and actions. There are those who do not know that a higher reality exists or is even possible. I cannot imagine anything more tragic and heartbreaking. Let’s include them in our world view and personal philosophy. We can help. We can heal.
We as the Armchair Opinionist
Everyone has an opinion about everything, this we know! Let’s be really honest here for just a moment. Most of our opinions don’t make us feel better, they don’t change anything, and they certainly don’t help anybody else. If we are unwilling or unable to let them go, we at least owe it to ourselves and others to be quiet. When we have no intent of doing something about what we’re constantly complaining of, our words have no purpose. Get out there and make a difference. You will never feel alone again.
Fear, Paranoia, and Isolation
If our views of life and the world fail to improve our own condition, or help anyone improve theirs, or change the world, they have no value or meaning. We must, nevertheless, continue to develop them anyway. If our perspective of reality is poisonous, if our attitude toward the world is filled with contempt, then we have created a dark cave of isolation. We have created a life of fear and paranoia. We believe the world is out to get us. This is the true definition of self-destruction, and it only feeds upon itself if we don’t change our direction. It is not possible to build positive relationships and connections with fear and hate. The truth is, nobody is out to get us. The enemy we perceive all around us is a figment of an imagination left unchecked. The only enemy that actually exists, exists in our own mind. Unfortunately, it is our own ego that perpetuates the lie, and removes any possibility of obtaining a level of sanity we can live with. This is our responsibility, not somebody else’s. Again, we can change our minds at any time. How about today!
“In the world, but not of it”
Once we decide to build rather than destroy, the lines of light become ours. If we have found love, if we have created freedom, if we have experienced peace, we must understand that many have not. The two realities can exist side by side. If we become that fear and darkness we see in others in order to be of help, we will be of no help at all. This we must know as we move forward. In the teachings, this is called “being in the world, but not of it”. In no way should we consider ourselves apart from others, however. We still need to participate with humanity, in a world we hope to change if we can. We must cooperate with the rules, laws, and norms as set forth by the majority of humanity. It’s also important for us to understand that those that are lost will not be lost for much longer. All will have an opportunity to increase their spiritual awareness in the very near future. We trust the Plan.
A Healthy Relationship with All
I can say, from my own experience, that opening myself up to others and the world feels a whole lot better. To know that pathways from myself to everyone and everything is not only possible, but likely, has created a new sense of well-being, well worth my time and effort. We do have to put forth the effort. Being alone and isolated is self-created. We must step out of the cave, take that risk and build those bridges and connections. Our own consciousness is but a line of light from here to there, from me to you. We can travel this multitude of pathways together, and thereby dissolve the illusion of separateness forever. Thanks for being with me today.
*A big shout-out this month to our World Teacher, the Christ. We celebrate your work, your support, the incredible education you offer, and your unending love and compassion. I’m not sure how we could find our way without you. An important relationship and connection for all of us to consider. Thank you, my friend!
All my love and support, be well
