“Planting the Seed”

A book 5178205 1920 (1)

Hello everyone! Spring is upon us, and it may be arriving a little slowly for some of us, but it will get here! All the brooding over the winter months is coming to an end, and we now have a chance to see what we discovered during that time, as an opportunity to grow and develop with the new life unfolding all around us. What are you trying to create this year? Have any new ideas come to your waiting mind? Everything is possible, my friends, excitement has become ours once again. The most important thing we can recognize this year is that we can see things in a different way, a better way. Are you ready? The seed has been planted, and now we wait patiently to see what it is we are creating, what we hope to bring forward into our lives and the world.

So, a new idea drops into the center of our mind, just like magic! Creation has begun! Now, let’s all have a proper perspective here and realize we did not create the idea, for the seed comes from a place just above us. Our role is to bring it out of germination, and help it gain life of its own through our nurturing and caring. We understand that any idea, no matter how good and beneficial it may be, will die without our due attention. A little water here, a little water there, and a little sunshine wouldn’t hurt either! In this way, we become necessary partners in the creative process. We need to remember that once we have brought the idea forward and see it working out in our lives in practical and necessary ways, we must let it go and move on to the next. The germinating seed has matured into a fully grown plant, we must set it free and let it be what it is. Let’s take a closer look.

We can begin by understanding that every idea presented to us, whether individually or collectively, is in reality nothing new. In other words, an idea may seem novel at first, but most of the things we have been working on, we have been working on for a very long time. So, whatever idea or concept we are working with and attempting to implement happens in basically two ways. We are either making adjustments or changes to what we already understand about it, thereby improving upon it, or we are simply bringing in the next part of it to make it more complete. Although there is really nothing new, then, a sense or feeling of newness will add that necessary excitement we need to be motivated and willing, in order to provide ourselves with what we are creating and currently need. The seed has been planted!

There are some “smaller” ideas we are working with that have more immediate implications, as they are intended to help us be more productive and efficient in our daily living. These are the practical things we all need at an individual level to make our lives work better. Perhaps one day you realize, all of a sudden, that you may want to get up a little earlier in the morning, so you don’t feel so rushed. Maybe you need a few moments of quiet, before the kids and your partner rise, so you get grounded right out of the gate. A calm and centered approach at the beginning of every day brings the most unexpected gifts! Do you see that any thought, idea, or realization is both simple and practical?

There are also those ideas that have more long-term implications, the ones we work on throughout our entire life. Perhaps we are trying to be a better father, a better mother, a better friend. Maybe we want to be more loving and compassionate. These ideas and creations are the most challenging, for patience is not something we have as often as we would like to. Perhaps it is patience we are working on the most! Then there are those collective creations we’re all involved in that take many generations, even centuries to fully develop. The establishment of equality and freedom involve humanity and the world at large. These things we really need to tune in to occasionally in order to have a proper perspective about our life, and that we are indeed part of a greater whole. Isn’t it interesting how we can feel small, and at the same time, feel more comfortable, and have a sense of belonging? Again, it’s all about perspective. These bigger ideas and creations help us understand and recognize how everything comes from a place much bigger than ourselves. True humility may be the greatest attainment of all. We nurture this germinating seed in every moment.

Whatever idea we are trying to bring forward, whatever creation we are involved with, is challenging for each and every one of us. What inhibits us more than anything else is unwillingness. To bring anything to fruition takes our utmost determination, commitment, and will. This “will” comes from that higher part of ourselves I so often speak of. My friends, it is cooperation that we require and benefit from the most. If a new thought enters our mind, if a new idea drops into the center of our very self, we must pay attention and give it credence. At first, it may not make sense or seem to have any practical value. It might even be about some future development. What stands in our way, is that it doesn’t fit in with our current itinerary, or what we believe to be possible. Let’s remember that if we don’t at least try it on, we’ll never know. We must keep in mind that the creative process is a very big thing and involves many things we don’t necessarily have complete control over at an individual level. If we return to our analogy of planting a seed, we know we have the ability to nurture and care for it, but it also requires the sun in order to become a real living thing. It is this invisible energy that provides warmth and a life sustaining impulse. It is all there is. We can stop for just a moment and recognize that the sun shows up every moment of every day, without complaint or resentment, for it does what it does, because it is what it is. Is it possible we could allow this kind of determination and intent into our own lives? This is what we need to bring our ideas and creations to full life. The sun is analogous to our soul, for they are one and the same. If life is a creative process, then we need to see it as a mutually cooperative venture. A seed, an idea, cannot survive without our love and attention, without our active involvement. Nor can a seed or idea have a life of its own without the sun. Both need each other. Creation is amazing, beautiful and, my friends, doable.

Spring is upon us! Let it bring new life to everything you do!

Plant a seed
Tend the garden
Set it free
