“Shoot for the Stars”

A book 5178205 1920 (1)

We all have a lot to deal with in our lives, and there is certainly a lot happening in the world as well. These are indeed stressful times. Given the amount of stress we’re currently under, we unfortunately believe we have little to give. Humanity finds itself in a unique and precarious position today. On the one hand, the majority of us find it challenging just to be able to take care of ourselves, much less care about the needs of others. On the other hand, we remain aware, sometimes painfully, that the greater need of humanity accompanies our own individual need. This “common” need or “inherent” need therefore applies to all of us. What greater humanity actually needs is not necessarily open to interpretation, although each individual will perceive what is needed based on their individual level of experience. In other words, each of us will be attracted to and then go about acquiring what we feel we need based on our current understanding of life and our world. We don’t all want the same things. The ultimate goal of humanity is for each individual within to eventually become aware of what is needed for all. Each of us is in a process of understanding what the “greater whole” needs and what we as an individual can contribute to this whole to make it better. The universal perspective of reality suggests that our efforts in life are in fact a process of becoming “inclusively aware”. What this means is that we are beginning to understand how our life and what we do involves more than just ourselves. Yes, we have an opportunity to think about others. It’s important to understand that each of us is not at the same point in this level of awareness, however. We must give each other room to grow and refrain from judgment. We must give each human being the freedom to acquire whatever they feel is important in their life based on what they need. We can be patient by understanding that the motivations, desires, and way of living of every human being will change over time with adequate experience. Let’s take a look.

Fill Yourself Up First

As much as many of us would like to give back and help out in some way, if our personal needs are not being met, we will be unable to find a way. We must be able to take care of ourselves and be as independent as we can be. Then we place ourselves in a better position to assist others or improve the condition of humanity at large. Whatever we feel we need, we have a right to acquire. So, go ahead and bring forth that career, that family, and by all means acquire those resources you need to survive. Ideally, we wouldn’t want to obtain more than we really need, and there are clearly those having difficulty with that side of the equation. The reality is that it isn’t wrong to want material things. It’s our level of attachment that creates the problem. The more attached we are to the material side of life, the greater chance we will obtain more than we really need. We are, therefore, in a process of understanding the practical value of all that we create and obtain. In other words, much of what we think we need will not ultimately have any real lasting purpose or value. This we must become more conscious of before we proceed. What should be recognized by all of us, from a practical perspective, is a great need of resources by all of humanity. Ironically, many of us who have achieved this understanding have little of this to give. This is only temporarily unfortunate, however. There are many human beings who do care and can therefore have a real impact on the world. A shift in the value system of greater humanity will provide the conscious generosity necessary to improve our condition.

A Change in Orientation

Interestingly, we all reach a point in our life where we are naturally in a position to give or become more involved. The career is going well, the children have grown, and we have pretty much acquired what we need. Generally speaking, this happens in our 50s and 60s. There is no need to be overwhelmed by the “empty nest syndrome” or the “midlife crisis”. The anxiety many of us experience at this point in our lives may simply be an opportunity to grow in a different way. We, in fact, have arrived at a better position to give of ourselves and make a real difference. The level of success we have achieved may provide us with an opportunity to express our gratitude. Yes, this is the time to do that long-awaited “soul-searching”. Who am I now? What can I do? We certainly have acquired a lot of experience, and hopefully some wisdom in our journey. Go ahead and share it with the world! Pick something and get involved. If you can find a group with similar goals and aspirations, better yet. There is clearly so much need, so it does not matter what you choose. It’s the giving of our time, and in some cases resources, that will fill the emptiness. We haven’t stopped growing yet, have we?

The Needs of the Greater Whole

The greater need of humanity involves those bigger things such as peace, love, and equality. This is what we are attempting to create in our prayers and meditations. Our efforts in this area are very real and have a definite impact on improving the condition of humanity and our world. We must remember that what we are creating in our hearts and minds needs to be followed up on through action. It is true that we all have something to give. Let’s be realistic, however, and take care of ourselves first. Acquiring that which we need will prepare us for that greater giving to humanity in the future. No matter our age, we have many goals and room to grow. Set the goals necessary to improve yourself, for this will indeed improve the condition of humanity. The greater need of humanity to create an inclusive and equal reality is not as far away as you think, so have this goal be alongside your individual goals. All things are possible, so “shoot for the stars”! The higher you go, the more inclusive your creation becomes!
