My friends, the Holiday Season is upon us once again! The spirit of joy, of love, the anticipation of giving, of sharing, it’s all available. Having said that, I find myself wondering again if this beautiful time meant for us needs to be as hectic as it tends to be. Running around, attempting to find that perfect gift, a general anxiety about those family get-togethers, this is our typical experience, is it not? Something doesn’t seem quite right about it all.
I think what this time of year really presents to us is an opportunity to be our spiritual selves. To reach higher, to bring to ourselves something we really need, something that is longer lasting, this should be our real and only goal. All the gift giving seems to be a nice thing, but what does it really mean? What is it we are really attempting to do? Perhaps we need to realize what this gift giving symbolizes for us, that is, an ability and opportunity to share. My friends, I will tell you, what we, and all the other people in our lives really want, really need, is something given from our hearts. A little time, a little caring, a little acceptance. A little love, a little peace, a little forgiveness. You see, this time of year is really an opportunity to aspire to those lofty goals, those spiritual values in which we all share. It is these we have an opportunity to bring forward. It is those special moments, those warm and meaningful moments, that will be remembered most of all.
Unfortunately, most of us will spend the next few weeks shopping for all those gifts the people in our lives don’t really need, much less even want. Then we’ll spend the following few weeks returning the gifts we were given, because they too were not needed or wanted. That special moment with a friend, or a family member, or a partner, will easily be forgotten. The spirit of the Holiday Season, being our real spiritual selves, are given over to the temporary material aspects of the same. This cannot be all that is meant for us. This cannot be all that we are.
My friends, let this be a time for the winged one, the angel, to give its greatest gift. It is the gift of self-love and self-understanding. Let this be the only gift that is shared. Let this be a time to heal, to love, to truly be free. Receive, and then give what is received. It is a beautiful time we can all cherish. So, create that special moment. Yes, love is indeed the beautiful and special moment, love indeed lasts forever. The material gifts, as beautiful and special as they may also be, will not. It is our time to give of that part of ourselves that we, and every other person, needs. This part is free, easily obtained, and easily given, for it is what we already have, who we already are. This part of ourselves is the soul, a small part at first, and the largest part next.
