If we are to create equality and fairness in our society, then it must be created across the board. There is nowhere in our society where a lack of fairness is so clearly seen than in our justice system itself. We know that society needs to have some rules and boundaries in which all must comply. My friends, the laws set forth within our society bring us a necessary order to things, so that we are able to have common goals, objectives, and a common direction. It should be very clear to us that our rules and laws must apply to all, or the creation of equality and fairness within our society would never be possible. It is equally obvious that in order for our current justice system to work, those who break the rules must therefore be held accountable in some way. So, why is this not happening?
The truth is, there is almost always some accountability, but it takes so long to bring it forward, we fail to recognize it when it arrives. Now, the way our justice system is set up today is to our advantage for the most part, for it is believed that it would be better to let the guilty go free rather than the innocent be imprisoned. This is why it is possible to appeal a decision made by any court, in order that the rights of every individual, whether guilty or innocent, are duly protected. Mistakes can be made, and this is why justice takes so long to be applied. But, I must say, our legal system has also become so complicated that even the most educated and experienced lawyers can barely navigate through it. This is something we have the ability to fix, and we have to, or accountability will never be implemented fairly.
What makes our legal system so complicated is that almost every day, a new law is created by Congress to provide a loophole for the wealthy and the Corporate World to escape accountability. Unfortunately, these are the people our Appeals Courts are designed to benefit. It is here where our court system is tied up, giving less resources to those of us who need them the most. It is a terrible tragedy to know that the more money a person has, the more “above the law” they can be. This means that the super wealthy and the Corporate World pay no taxes, while those who commit minor drug offenses go to jail. To a great extent, my friends, there is little justice happening in our world today. How about a couple of examples, just to make this unfortunate reality more clear. Massive companies like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon are fined tens of millions of dollars every year for breaking monopoly and privacy laws, which do indeed jeopardize the safety and well-being of the public. But, these fines are easily paid with one day’s revenue. This level of accountability provides no incentive for these greedy companies to change their behavior. If the Justice Department fined Google or Amazon 50% of their net worth, now that might create some change! How about Donald Trump being fined 1,000 dollars each time he violates a gag order. Apparently, the future of American Democracy isn’t worth much. Perhaps the equality and fairness we intend to create needs to be based on an exercising of basic common sense. It is no wonder so many within our society have lost faith in government and its associated institutions. But, my friends, this gives us no reason to become cynical and apathetic. Again, all opportunity is before us today.
Yes, it’s time to create fairness in our justice system. But, our justice system as it exists and operates today cannot create the changes necessary without our help. Remember, the Republican Party, the Corporate World, Donald Trump, the Supreme Court, and the super wealthy have no intent to help in any way, ever. My friends, it is we who decide with a vote for the Democratic Party. We must elect government officials who support the changes we need today.
Our justice system is imperfect, that is for sure. But, there is no system anywhere in the world that is better. My friends, we just have to proceed, we must continue creating a better way. It is not the intent of our system of laws, rules, and boundaries to punish us. Rather, they provide a way for us all to come together, work together, and move forward as a team. It is a way for us to see that we have moral judgement, a way for us to show that we care about one another. My dear friends, the majority of humanity sees things in the same way. Those who do not, must have some accountability if we are to be successful. Only we can make that happen.
We have the power today to bring all of these things together. What we must do is be entirely realistic and honest with ourselves in order to make it work for everyone. For heaven’s sake, literally, to create heaven on Earth, we have to stop telling ourselves we can have everything we want at all times, at any cost. I will tell you, we are not children, although we behave as though we are in almost every moment. We can never create heaven if the acquisition of money and things is our only incentive for living. It must be absolutely clear to us that greed has created the undesirable conditions of our world today. Would the simple act of sharing resolve all of our issues? My friends, I will tell you, every deplorable human condition we see now would be greatly improved. Would a simple act of love alleviate the fear that dictates our very lives? I will tell you, it is the only way. Without equality and fairness, justice will never be served.
To be served, is to serve. This simple statement of fact holds the key to creating a sustained peace, a successful human living, and an understanding of our need to be together, always.
Together, we achieve
All my love and support, be well
