“Liberal and Conservative”

News 1074604 1920

We’ve had a chance to discuss the relationship between the opposites within the human experience, in hopes of finding a balanced middle ground where better choices can be found. A great way to achieve this understanding is to consider the two basic ideologies found within the political spectrum of our world, that of the liberal approach and the conservative. I thought we would take a little time today and take a look at these two basic ideologies in terms of what they are intended to represent and accomplish within their field of expression. We’ll be coming from the perspective of the two political parties within the United States, that is, the Republican and Democratic Parties, and we will keep in mind that these two ideologies can be found in every country across the world. Again, our goal is to understand the two perspectives in an effort to find that essential middle ground where the majority of humanity can thereby benefit.

It’s important for us to recognize that our political parties are intended to represent our perspective and what we need in our lives. We also know there are always two sides to everything, no matter what is in consideration. We can view the political spectrum to reflect our current state of mind, then, as we attempt to understand all the factors involved in our life choices. If our political parties are at odds, and they are having difficulty coming together and meeting on common ground, this is merely reflective of our own inability to make up our minds. We can also see the challenges we face in understanding and respecting the viewpoint of others. It can be said that, often, we do not understand what we truly need in our lives, we are confused as to the best way to improve our own condition. Until we clarify these matters ourselves, we will continue to see a back and forth, if you will, within our political representation. We must seek middle ground within our minds as to our individual concerns and accept and include the concerns of others. What we see now, through our unwillingness and lack of cooperation, is that the political process is about winning rather than an orientation toward solution. Our attitude and behavior is one of us against them, much like a sporting event. I must say, winning at any cost will not bring us what we need in our lives and the world. Common purpose and objective should be our only goal if we are to create significant changes where all can benefit. Let’s go ahead and consider each ideology as a means to understand what is happening in our own minds.

Liberal

From a higher perspective, the liberal ideology is intended to reflect what is possible for us in the future. The goal of this belief system is to bring forward those policies and programs which will improve the human condition overall. In the United States, this perspective is currently reflected within the Democratic, or progressive party, known to us as the “left”. I must say, this is a much saner approach, as the American people can clearly see the problems that exist and the need to move forward in a big way. We can see this to be true all across the world. There are two problems with this approach seen today. The first is that each individual and group in America does not seem to understand that they cannot have everything they want right now. The Democratic Party attempts to satisfy all needs immediately, and thereby attempts to represent everyone in every way. Realistically, this is not possible. The Democrats in Congress are, however, doing their very best to find what can be created to benefit the greatest number of its citizens in the present. The second issue, as I have stated above, is that the people of this country do not necessarily know what they need and who can provide it. The challenge of the Democratic Party, then, has been to communicate to the American people how their policies and programs will indeed improve the conditions of the majority of lives in this country. It is well understood by them, the need to shift the vast monies and resources currently located within the few at the very top of our society, and relocate it to the middle class, which is where most of us can be found. The Biden Administration, and the Democrats in Congress, need to continue pointing this out to the American people at every opportunity. It cannot be overstated that, as things stand today, it is the Democratic Party that is more reflective of what the American people want and need.

Conservative

The conservative ideology, from that higher perspective, is intended to reflect the past, or that which has already been established. It should be clear to us, the need to understand our past as a foundation to our present time, and as a way to build upon what we already know. The ultimate goal, then, would be to bring forward what we value, and what we know works, into the present. The other important factor that the conservative viewpoint can offer is the need to move forward slowly and responsibly. What is missing from the conservative perspective today, is a need to create new and better ways as an addition to the established past. The Republican or Conservative Party, also known as the “right”, is inflexible in their approach, as they intend to keep things as they are. An unwillingness to create positive change for the American people in any way does not serve them, or their constituents, properly. In this way, the American people are being held hostage, or imprisoned by the past. Again, the past, or our current foundation, should be used as a teacher in order for us to proceed wisely. To hold on to the old way of doing things, even if it no longer works, will not get us to where we would like to be. The Republican Party, unfortunately, has had the purpose of pushing the idea to the American people that wealth and power are the only indicators of success. This has allowed the perception of the pursuit of individual greatness to be one of taking everything at the cost of everyone else. The importance of individual freedoms, and the pursuit of personal enterprise, need to be considered as they involve the country at large. This would be responsibility and the practical application of wisdom. Having said this, the Conservative Party of the United States today only supports two small groups of Americans, the Religious Right and the wealthy among us. The implementation of policies and programs that serve the majority is tragically lacking. The Republican Party has traditionally been quite aware of the need for law and order, certain boundaries as a necessity to responsible living, and the need for every individual to pursue life in their own way, but they have decided that power, or winning, is their only goal. This cannot work, and will lead to their continued defeat, as indicated by the vote and will of the American People. It is hoped they will identify themselves once again with their intended purpose, to help us all be comfortable and successful. This is real service.

A Third or Independent Party?

Personally, I don’t think the development of a third party in the U.S. to be a viable option, or a solution to the paralysis that currently exists in Congress. Basically, a third option would only create more confusion, and nobody needs that right now! Folks, we already have what we need. We have the two ends of the spectrum available that we can view and understand. It is not about the competition between the two with the goal of winning. We don’t have to choose one over the other. What we should all recognize is the need to compromise. In this way, we pick the best of each perspective, and combine them to make the third. When we weigh things out in our mind, we are able to decide what is best for all concerned. When we consider what is best for others, we include what is best ourselves. Every country of this wonderful world, and every individual within, becomes empowered by the needs of the greater whole. We have earned the right to be here and therefore deserve a comfortable and successful life. Each of us has this goal. To create this reality, we always need to seek the middle ground in all that we do. We need to fully realize the power of choice available, to create the greater good.

Within our mind, we find a balanced place in the middle

Within the middle, we create a relaxed mind

Within a relaxed mind, we see compromise, where correct decision can be made

All my love and support, be well
