Politics is not generally my area of work, but the conditions that currently exist in the government and corporate world of the United States have warranted a serious discussion we should all be having with ourselves and those around us. It is time to be honest about what is happening in our country and call things what they are. These conditions have deteriorated to the point that critical action must be taken by every American citizen in order to offset the direction we are headed. We can do this only if we stand up, start caring and take immediate action by exercising our right to vote this fall. Every individual needs to understand what has gone into developing this grand experiment called the United States of America and the constitution that was created thereby. I firmly believe that we are going to be OK and will be able to implement the necessary changes to provide an equal and just society for all by understanding that we are in fact the government. We decide what the government does and what the government is allowed to do through the election of representatives with our vote. We create change through active participation in our own electoral system. The time is now. In my effort to call things as they are, it is my intent to create a heightened sense of awareness in these matters. It is not my intent to harm anyone or to simply have my own opinion be known. An actual assessment of the current state of affairs will hopefully assist in some correct decision-making. Please keep this in mind as we consider the following.
As we view the current administration, we notice clear signs of dictatorship, and if we allow it to continue, the freedoms we currently enjoy will be taken from us. We can clearly see this happening through the lawlessness, deception, and manipulation of the American people by the President of the United States, his companions in the corporate sector, and the republican held senate. Some are still asking, “how did we get here?”. Folks, this is about making lots of money! This is the president’s entire focus and reason for being. He does not care about your health, your lack of resources, if you die from Covid-19, or even if you have basic human rights. He cares about money. The republicans in the Senate do not care about the American people or what they need. They care about maintaining power so that they can also make lots of money. Executives in the corporate sector elect republicans to congress through their lobbyists in order to receive inconceivable tax breaks because they apparently don’t have enough money. It is worth noting also that, unfortunately, the conservative Christian right and the many poor, uneducated and inexperienced persons of this country have been used by the Republican Party for decades in order to maintain their power – a power that supports their own greed and the greed of the corporate sector. This can only be seen as blatant manipulation and exploitation. This will only continue and get much worse if they are not removed from office. If you believe in equality and fairness, you must take action now.
The reality of the nearly 200,000 people killed by the Covid-19 virus and the economic devastation created as a result cannot be avoided, and once again, the wealthy individuals, families, and corporations of this country have done absolutely nothing to help their fellow human beings. This has been supported by the Republican Party for far too long. It is time for those of us who care about our fellow men and women, the planet which we all rely upon for our survival, and the evolution of the human spirit to say, “no more”. The Republican Party is not going to change, no matter what they tell you. Their oppressive policies will continue. This assessment is not partisan because it involves each one of us. One of the problems we currently face is that many people are still single-issue voters whether it concerns gun rights, abortion rights, or otherwise, and the understandable, idealistic nature of these individuals prevents them from seeing the bigger picture going on behind the scenes. It is unwise to fervently pursue your vision of what society should look like while the very means that allow you to do so are removed from you day by day. It is particularly dangerous for those of you who have achieved a fairly high level of financial or material success to vote republican in order to get additional tax breaks because you feel you do not have enough. It would be a mistake for you to assume that what is going on around you cannot touch you. In your efforts to acquire more, you sacrifice your ability to acquire anything at all. If all of us could simply adopt a higher level of honesty and awareness of our value system, a better world could be created for all of us. This is about the higher values of love, fairness, and equality, not money and power. The decision to elect officials that represent the many rather than the few is upon us, so let’s do the right thing. It seems clear that we must allow ourselves to choose democrats to lead us through these difficult times of change because the republicans have shown us, time and time again, they do not care about the majority of Americans. So, our vote this fall must include a democratic senate as well as the presidency itself. If you choose money over higher values, you will eventually be included in the unfortunate and unnecessary suffering that many of us have already endured. No wealthy individual or corporation would be exempt from the effects of an autocratically led government. I would remind them of this fact. Let’s take a look at a few things that will become more possible if we choose a democratically led presidency and congress, especially the senate – in essence, choosing change over the status quo.
A fair and equal judicial system – the current legal system allows our financial institutions through their greedy practices to devastate the entire economy of the wealthiest country in the world while sending young people to prison for smoking pot.
A lot more accountability in the corporate sector – the corporations of the United States currently enjoy record profits while providing consumers with low quality, unaffordable products and services. They also continue to break various laws to ensure high profit margins and pay no price by being afforded the best lawyers who can tie up lawsuits in the courts for decades with one loophole after another. Even if they are found guilty, they are allowed to turn around and bill the consumers for the cost of their legal proceedings by increasing the prices of their products and services.
A lot more accountability for our elected politicians – they make promises within their oath of office to serve the greater good while writing laws that allow the above to happen in the first place.
The dissolution of the insurance industry – the whole idea that a person’s life and health can be insured or guaranteed is ludicrous. Everyone is going to die, and we’re all subject to disease, so why not make life as comfortable as possible for everyone by providing health care.
A system of government that affords every person equal opportunity to education and work – everyone has something to give to society, a unique gift that adds to the beauty and functionality of the greater whole.
A system that provides common decency and respect, a return to civility so desperately needed right now. This is love in action.
A system that has truth as its primary motivation in governance – manipulation for the purposes of self-interest cannot stand.
A system of government that exercises appropriate taxation of the individuals, families, and corporations that currently control most of the money and resources of this country – it is time to give back or none of us will survive.
These words may seem heavy, serious, and even harsh to some, but we have reached a critical juncture in human living. We stand on the horizon of human greatness and potentiality, but we face difficult challenges in order to get there. Who could say no to this universal opportunity? Let’s say yes to creating change and find out what happens! Thanks for joining me today. Be courageous and hopeful and realize we’re going to be ok!
All my love and support, stay safe and be well
