OK. If you have never voted in a midterm election, now may be the time to do just that. If you truly care about yourself, your family, the country, and the world at large, it’s time to show it’s true with your vote. Are you registered? Please get registered today. And remember, that’s not enough. You actually need to show up and cast your vote. I think we’ve covered what’s in front of us well enough in previous articles, so we can keep it short today. Perhaps we just need a couple of reminders as we move forward.
This is the most important time in the history of the United States and, quite frankly, across the world as well. Humanity has an opportunity to decide what freedom means and how important the establishment of basic human rights has become. Our future is indeed upon us today. The whole idea of a democracy is to have a say in what our government does and does not do with our ability to vote. This is the only way to have our values become part of our actual daily living and culture. This is a new approach to human living. The implication is that democracy is imperfect as it stands today. We have the opportunity right now to enter the next phase of how a democracy can work for us in even better ways. Yes, we can more firmly establish human rights and equality if we choose to move ahead. With imminent change upon us, fear and apprehension come into play. There are those who do not want to cooperate, and therefore want us to move back into the past. It’s understandable to just go with what is known, because it’s easier. If we could simply realize that, in our past, certain things have worked, but many other things have not, then we have a decision to make. If we reenter and reestablish the past again, however, we have no ability to change what needs improvement. I think most of us have become aware that it’s going to be worth the risk. We need to take action to provide ourselves with this wonderful opportunity.
I hope most of you had a chance to review the January 6th Congressional Hearings. In all honesty, this is our government doing its work on our behalf. This is a good thing, for it gives us that necessary transparency we need, to not only know what’s really going on behind the scenes, but to have a greater ability to take the appropriate action required. I must say, if you are not truly horrified at the behavior of certain individuals and groups, you have become numb to reality. When we allow ourselves to be numb or apathetic, we are giving permission to bring things in we do not want. In that sense, we can consider Donald Trump and his administration to be a gift to us. A very serious wake-up call! If we continue to deny what’s going on, we’re headed for danger. If we decide to move toward an authoritarian state, which is where the Republican Party is leading us, then we will have a very different, and much more difficult life than we already have. We take things for granted, folks. The best way to know what we have as a United States citizen would be to move to Russia, China, North Korea, or Iran, perhaps. Unfortunately, this is not practical for most of us. We’re going to have to assume that we would not enjoy the kind of life the people of these countries endure. The “Deep State” that so many people in the United States fear is already happening, my friends. It will become our reality if we let it. However, the “Deep State” does not exist within the Democratic Party, or the Jewish religion, or within the various minorities of our country. It exists as a foundation of the Republican Party, the corporate world, and the wealthy among us. The behavior and views of the Republican Party today aren’t something new. They have always had these fear-based policies, grounded in self-interest, at least within my life of almost sixty years. The difference now, however, is they have become visible to us. We can no longer deny, lest we have each and every right we have enjoyed slowly taken from us. Again, it’s already happening.
We all have different beliefs and values. We all want things a certain way. We all, desperately, want others to be just like us. This, unfortunately, cannot be. We must accept this if we are to find a way to make things work for everyone. What we all have in common at our core is the desire to express ourselves and be who we are. There is no person who wishes someone else to tell them who they are or how to become their best self. If we want the opportunity to find our own way, we must afford every other person the same. We can do it, and we’re ready to do it. If you happen to agree with the viewpoint of the Republican Party, the actions of the Supreme Court, and the behavior of your particular State Legislature, then please remember that what you hold dear can and will be thrown under the bus as well when it’s convenient for them to do so. You see, it’s all about power and money, nothing else. The idea that in order to win one must lie, cheat and steal in order to win should give us pause. Do you really want people with this kind of integrity to make decisions about your life and reality? Even if you have been a lifelong Republican, I encourage you to vote Democrat up and down the ballot this time around. It’s not a forever thing. You can bite the bullet. This is no longer about winning or being right. It’s about your livelihood and future. What we have struggled through and worked so hard to achieve must be given a chance to work out. This isn’t a hard decision, so make the right decision today.
I have to be honest, you guys. I’m a little scared and worried that we do not care enough about what is at stake. Things could go either way here. It’s up to us. I think we need to realize that if we do decide not to care and allow the Republicans and the wealthy to dictate our reality, it will be very difficult to reverse course once this becomes established. I, and many others, have every hope we will decide to move into a new future full of love and greater freedom for all. In order to create this reality, we must continue the good fight for a little while longer. If we choose not to, chaos, confusion, and instability will be right around the corner. We need to keep in mind that whatever we decide, violent actions by some will most likely be part of the process, even if we make the right decision. Our history shows us this has always been the case in our attempt to bring in necessary change. Violence and hatred cannot win in the end if we do the right thing. I think we can trust ourselves in knowing that we have eventually made the right decisions for ourselves in the past, and we can continue that now. Show your concern, show your love, show that you care. Make yourself heard with your vote in November.
What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger
All my love and support, be well
