The path is narrow, but visible
Yes, it winds, it turns, but the end can be seen
To the left is the past, to the right is the future
What lies between is the now, the present
What lies ahead, what lies at the end, is all that is
My friends, life is simply a pathway forward. For a long time, we cannot see where it is we are going, but we are impelled to walk this path toward the unknown anyway. On each side of this path we travel are the shifting sands of time. On one side is a past that has already been. On the other is a future yet to be. What we must do is focus on the pathway itself, for it will guide us between the two, and indicate to us the present. It is the now that shows us where to place our feet. As we move forward, then, we cannot place too much attention on either the past or the future, for we will lose our balance and fall, we will lose our way. We will no longer see what lies ahead.
There is never a need to worry if we fall, however, for no matter how far we fall, all we have to do is look up, look ahead, and see the path once again. We climb back up, place our feet on the ground and try again. This is the power of the present. In every moment, we have the ability to choose, you see. We can choose to take another step forward. Every time we do this we succeed. Every time we simply pay attention to the path we’re on, we become more focused, and the past and the future lose their power over us. No need to look to the right or the left. Look straight ahead. With each step forward, the foundation of our life path becomes stronger, and the shifting sands of time have no power to make us fall again. With every little step forward, we can never lose our way again.
My fellow souls, the path is narrow, indeed. It winds and turns. Some parts are well lit, and other parts we can barely see. What we can always see, however, is the path itself. There is no before or after. There is no past or future. There is only what the path reveals. It reveals the now. It reveals what lies ahead. It reveals all that is.
